How to Add or Change Your Full Name in WordPress

126

Is your WordPress site showing the wrong name on your blog posts? Recently one of our users asked us how they can add their full name in WordPress. During the installation WordPress asks you to enter a username. This username is then displayed in your WordPress themes as post author or site admin. In this article, we will show you how you can add or change your full name in WordPress and tell WordPress how it should show your name on the front-end as well as admin area.

Why You Need to Use a Full Name in WordPress

Often people choose usernames that are easy to remember and a mix of different words or letters. Such usernames when displayed as author name look a bit weird. You can change username in WordPress, but there is an even easier way to change your display name.

A WordPress site showing username as the author name

When you have a cohesive name vs a username, it looks a lot more professional. It also helps search engines associate content with a specific author. It establishes your personal brand, and your users become familiar with your name. See the website of our founder, Syed Balkhi, to learn more on how to build your personal brand on the web.

Changing or Adding Names in WordPress

Adding your name and telling WordPress to use your name instead of username is actually very easy. Simply go to Users » Your Profile page in your admin area.

If you are unable to see Users in your WordPress admin menu, then this means you are not an administrator on this site. You can still make changes to your profile by clicking on the Profile menu.

You will need to scroll down to the Name section where you can see the options to add your first name, last name, and a nickname.
