That’s right, Mitch is wearing the official WPBeginner shirt! He started with a brief introduction and then got into the WordPress history. It is important to know where you came from to know where you are going. He explained the idea of plugins and how conveniently they allow people to add functionality to the platform.

When Mitch started using WordPress in 2005 it had just introduced themes, static pages, and user roles. It has come a long way since then. Now it is a complete Content Management System with custom post types and taxonomies.Today about 14% of sites run on WordPress and many more people are considering switching over from other CMS platforms.

So what are the biggest obstacles to new WordPress users? According to Mitch there are three. First is actually making the switch to WordPress from another CMS. Luckily there are a lot of plugins or tutorials out there that allow you to do this fairly easily. We offer blog migration services, so just shoot us an email.

The second thing is choosing a theme. Never use Google to find a free theme. They almost always have malware or hidden links. The other options is to purchase a premium theme. Check out the WordPress themes we recommend.

The last thing he talked about was plugins. He talked about all of the plugins he uses on his websites including Digg Digg and Yoast SEO. All in all it was a very informative talk with lots of good suggestions for new WordPress users. He pretty much had all the plugins we recommend.
