Well Researched Methods To Reset Windows 10 Passwords – We all get frustrated when we forget a password for something important like a Windows 10 login. The worst part is that a lot of users automatically assume that they need to reinstall Windows 10 or reset everything to factory settings. That’s not at all necessary because you don’t want to end up losing all the data and custom settings on your computer. The better way is to use one of the various methods and tools that are available to reset your password. Let’s look at how to use these resources to reset the passwords for different types of Windows 10 login accounts.

Option 1: For Local Accounts

To reset a local account password, you won’t find a better or easier-to-use tool than PassMoz LabWin. This award-winning password recovery software for Windows is a powerful desktop utility that allows you to create what is called a password reset disk, but you can do it on any other Windows computer in case you are locked out of yours. All you need is admin access on a different PC and a USB drive or blank DVD with which to create the reset media. Here’s how it works:

Step 1: Download and install PassMoz LabWin on the other PC, insert the storage device and launch the program. In the software interface, you’ll see options to create bootable media on USB or disk. Choose the appropriate one and click Burn next to it. Your reset disk is now ready, so eject it in File Explorer and remove it from the other PC.

Step 2: To use the disk on your locked computer, you must boot from it. First, insert the disk or drive containing the bootable program. Now fire up the PC and hit the F2 or another special key when it is shown on the screen. This takes you to the BIOS menu, where you need to change the boot order or boot priority to point to your reset disk or drive. Save the changes and exit, after which your computer will boot into the PassMoz LabWin program.

Step 3: In the software interface, select Windows 10 and the locked local account. Click on Reset Password and your password for that account will be automatically blanked. Now eject and remove the disk, restart your computer and log in to your account. You will not need a password to get in.

The reset disk will work multiple times, so you can use it any time you forget your password. It also works with other types of Windows login accounts, so keep it safe for when you need it.

Option 2: Reset Password For Microsoft Accounts

If you are using a Microsoft account for your login and you want to reset the password, you can use the online portal hosted by Microsoft to change your password to a new one. You will need an Internet connection since you’re going to do this in a browser window, but the advantage is that you can do it from any device, even your smartphone or tablet. You will need access to the email ID or phone number associated with your Microsoft account because you will receive a code that you need to enter on the site before you can set a new password. Here’s the process:

Step 1: Open a browser window on any device and go to the Microsoft account recovery page.

Step 2: Enter one of your contact details for the verification process. This can be your Skype ID, email address or even your phone number associated with that Microsoft account.

Step 3: Select Next, enter the missing details for your email or phone number and click on Send Code.

Step 4: Retrieve the code from your phone or email inbox and enter it in the next page.

Step 5: You can now reset your password by entering it twice.

Since this is an online account, your locked Windows PC must have an Internet connection for the new password to be updated. Once connected, you should be able to login without a problem.

Option 3: Reset Password For Domain Accounts

If you’re the admin for a network or workgroup of Windows 10 PCs, you can change the password for any of the users who are part of that group. One way to do that is by using Active Directory. As long as you are part of the Account Operations security group, you can reset any user’s password by accessing the Active Directory Users and Computers MMC. Here’s how to do it:

Step 1: First, login to an admin account that is part of the Account Operations security group.

Step 2: Open AD Users and Computers and locate the user account for which the password needs to be reset.

Step 3: Right-click the user account and then select Reset Password. Enter it twice and confirm the change.

There are some restrictions with this method. For example, if you want to select more than one account, you can only set a common password for everyone, not individual ones for each user. For that, you will need to use PowerShell cmdlets, which will allow you to do a lot more. But if you only want to change the password for a single user, the AD method is best.
